Redfall: release date, trailer, story and news
E3 2021 was filled with surprises, but none were as shocking as Red drop – a new cooperative shooter from Arkane Austin. No gameplay was featured when it debuted, but we did get a wonderful CGI trailer that gave us a glimpse of the terrifying world we will be immersed in when it launched.
A lot of Red drop remains shrouded in mystery, but a few things can be gleaned from its trailer. From release date and gameplay to multiplayer and available platforms, here’s what we know Red drop.
Red drop doesn’t have a release date yet, but it does have a release window. Expect to see Arkane’s game on shelves in the summer of 2022. Of course, game development continues to be affected by the ongoing pandemic, and we won’t be shocked if Red drop ended up being delayed in 2023.
Revealed at the end of the Xbox and Bethesda showcase, it’s probably no surprise that Red drop is an Xbox exclusive. So far, the game has been confirmed for the Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and PC. Arkane is owned by Bethesda – which was recently acquired by Xbox – so cooperative play is unlikely to see the light of day on Sony or Nintendo consoles.
Red drop was announced at E3 2021 with a CGI trailer – and it is currently the only trailer released by Arkane. It doesn’t show much, but it does give a glimpse of its main characters, as well as some of the enemies we’ll be up against.
Arkane Tickets Red drop as an open world co-op shooter. It looks a lot like Left for dead, and it even has a motley cast of characters to rival those of the iconic shooter. So far we’ve seen four great characters revealed, each with their own unique backgrounds, skills, and personalities.
- Devinder crousley: Paranormal investigator and amateur cryptozoologist, Crousley wants to find out what happened to Redfall and expose the truth to the world.
- Layla Ellison: After studying biomedical engineering at Redfall Technical University, Ellison completed an internship at Aevum Therapeutics. Something apparently went wrong in the facility, although all she remembers is waking up with powers of telekinesis.
- R̩mi de la Rosa: A brilliant-minded combat engineer, Remi de la Rosa is accompanied by Bribon Рhis robotic ally Рas she attempts to save the town of Redfall.
- Jacob Boyer: A former military sniper, Boyer is in Redfall as part of a private security operation. He now has a “mysterious vampiric eye” and commands a spectral crow that does whatever he wants.
Red drop will be playable both solo or co-op, with players taking on “a legion of vampires who have invaded the once picturesque island town of Red drop. “The game is said to be inspired by other titles on Arkane’s roster, such as Prey and Dishonored – so it will be curious to see how your actions shape the world around you and impact the fight from moment to moment.
As for the actual gameplay, Red drop is an FPS, though each character brings their own unique set of skills and equipment to battle. These will be customizable, as you’ll find ways to level them up as you play each round. You will face vampires that are the result of a science experiment gone awry, some of them using various superpowers. For example, the Fisherman – seen in the trailer – uses a psychic harpoon to drive players away from their party, leaving them exposed to subsequent attacks.
Arkane has stated that each round will play out differently from the last, and the team is very focused on building a world that you will want to explore. Yes Prey and Dishonored are something to go by, expect a world teeming with mysteries to uncover and a lore of deceptively deep.
As far as we know, Red drop only offers cooperative multiplayer for up to four players. It is not known if you will be able to put yourself in the shoes of the vampires – in the same way as Left for dead lets you put yourself in his Infected’s shoes – but we know his single-player and multiplayer modes are going to kind of blend together.
Since Red drop Just announced, we don’t know much about the DLC plans – although it’s probably safe to say that it will benefit from some form of post-launch support.
No retailer is currently accepting pre-orders for Red drop.
